The Your Nurse Mentorship Match Workbook is being used by my pre-PA mentee and she was kind enough to leave a heartfelt review. I want to thank her for taking the time to share her experiences and being so transparent about her challenges. I pray it helps or inspires you along your journey.
"I thought it was GREAT! I think your book can be a resource to those in every step in their career. For those who are just getting their feet wet, who may have decided to change careers, for those lost, and even for others that are on track with their career. I think anybody can read your book at any stage and take a lot from it. I liked when you mentioned " it is your responsibility to invest in yourself" I resonated with what you said, especially since on my path to medicine I am the only one in my family, and they can only help me with so much because most of them are in capital America or technology. While I was in my hometown, I was always trying to find a mentor, women 's organization related to health etc. and very similar once moving to the DMV, but no matter what direction I'm going, it's my responsibility to invest in myself and find those resources."
"I thought it was nice including the email and phone template on reaching out to future mentors, physicians etc, but I really enjoyed the questions that you included. I think they allow you to start brainstorming your way especially for personal statements, and to just narrow down why medicine. Not only for the medical aspect but also question 5 mentions who are you outside of medicine and how you plan to combine the two, which I think is a good question to understand who you are outside of school. I think that last part was particularly for me, because for the longest school was my identity. I knew after college I would go to school for a long time, but since that didn't happen automatically I think it had mentally affected me. I was so confused and I remember even talking to my friends who had the same thoughts if I'm not in school trying to progress what am I going to do, who am I , school is all I know. So I think that question really is going to make me think about who I am outside of medicine and how I want to incorporate my values when I practice."
