If you’re new here, welcome! I am Dr. Kimberly Madison, DNP, AGPCNP-BC and I created this blog to increase access to dermatology education and training for nurses and nurse practitioners. The journey to becoming a dermatology nurse practitioner can be long and include a catalog of experiences. Because nursing schools do not expose nurses and nurse practitioners to dermatology specifically, many of us fall in love with it after we have gained a number of experiences outside of dermatology. Unfortunately, these experiences often are not enough to qualify us to be the best candidate for employers who desire dermatology specific experience as a medical assistant, nurse or nurse practitioner. At least, that was how it used to be. Now you have the Mahogany Dermatology platform. I created the Mahogany Dermatology platform based on my personal experience.

The Mission

-Translate how the latest evidence-based data on skin, hair, and nails can be applied to improve health equity for diverse communities.

-Educate nurse practitioners about skin of color,  inclusive and culturally competent care, and artificial intelligence in dermatology.

-Create an ecosystem for nurse practitioners interested in medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology to obtain mentorship, education, and training.

-Develop a practice framework for nurse practitioners to follow so they can move beyond the bedside and toward board leadership and business.
